Nier is an action adventure RPG made by Square-Enix, released worldwide in April 2010. It's also a game that went fairly unnoticed by the gaming community in the US, which most likely can be attributed to poor publicity.

But, despite being rather obscure, it did manage to garner some positive criticism, receiving praise from a New York Times review of the game, and got a respectable 7 out of 10 from IGN. But what is Nier about, really? Well, some websites might call it something like "an action role-playing fantasy game" or something similar, but that is not true. No, what this game is about is busywork.

The plot of the game is about a father trying to save his daughter from an incurable and fatal disease known as the "Black Scrawl", which is a magical disease that causes black runes to form on the skin of the infected. How he intends to do this is by using a talking book he found to use these magical macguffins called "Sealed Verses" to save the world.
