In the north-west corner of Panau is the mysterious Hantu Island, a land-mass shaped like a dollar-sign which appears permanently dark and rainy. Strange structures jut up from its landscape, and if the player approaches by air or sea their vehicle will catch fire and explode when nearby. It's later revealed that this is due to an EMP rigged up by Japanese soldiers convinced World War Two is ongoing, but the island is also home to a number of references to the hit television drama LOST.

On a beach on the Western shore of the island (in-game map coordinates X1275, Y3663, for those looking for a quick fix), the player will discover a crashed plane which looks suspiciously similar to Oceanic 815. On the beach someone has carved a huge sign into the sand reading "SEARCH", with an arrow pointing off to the south - following this direction will lead the player to discover the mysterious Hatch from Season Two of LOST (the map coordinates are X1796, Y4351).
