Elementary school free farm animal lesson plans are a marvellous way to instruct students about life on the farmstead. This lesson is age appropriate for students who identify the primary colors and are beginning to read short words independently. Students should be able to read and follow directions with minimal adult supervision. It meets the following goals:

  • Encourages color recognition
  • Introduces farm animals
  • Encourages pre-reading and literacy skills

Read the Story

You will need a copy of Spot Goes To The Farm, Eric Hill, [G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1987].

Let the students look at the book cover and discuss what they think will happen in the story. List their predictions on the whiteboard, and after you read the story, ask them to compare their predictions about the story with the actual content of the book. Stop about halfway through the book and ask them what they think will happen next.
